Set in about the year zero, four people go into the desert to do a quarantine for 40 days. One of them is called Jesus who dies. But there they meet a horrible old trader who tries to manipulate everyone. And his wife who is nice.

Great! Original too.

Victor, wealthy merchant, wants to build a new market building, replacing the slummy market that he was brought up in. But Rook, his right-hand man isn't as loyal as he thinks.

Pretty good. Read much of this while travelling back from Moscow airport(s) after abortive attempt to go and join Richard's wedding in UB.
