 | High Dive | Oh dear, once again writing a review months after finishing the book. This is a fictional story based on the true events of September 1984 when the IRA planted a bomb in the Grand Hotel, Brighton, targeting Thatcher and other attendees of the Tories's annual party conference. Told mainly from the point of view of the hotel manager's daughter. Can't remember any more that that really! Oops. | I am writing this mid-November, and I blame lockdown! We went to Alert Level 4 on 17 August (I just checked), and since them my motivation for reading has taken a bit of a hit. Or at least my motivation for reading new stuff and logging it here has disappeared. Not only that but this is the inaugural book of the ADHB-HIT book club! So it's a shame I don't remember a bit more about it. I remember thinking that I really enjoyed the behind-the-scenes bits about how a luxury hotel is run. Anyway, just for posterity, here is a list (from memory) of what I have been reading during lockdown (all re-reads). The whole Harry Potter series, A Walk in the Woods and A Short History of Nearly Everything (both Bill Bryson), Nathaniel's Nutmeg (Giles Milton), Atonement (Ian McEwan). Oh - and Swallows and Amazons, which I read to Molly, which we both enjoyed, me more than her though probably. We have Swallowdale on order at the library! |
