I Am Pilgrim
What connects a murdered woman in a seedy New York hotel to a female Turkish cop who has secrets of her own? Did the young billionaire slip from the cliff to his death by accident or did someone push him? Are the Greek drug dealers involved? And can the ex-extra-secret service chap find the angry but super-smart ex-mujahideen before he launches a terrifying weapon against the United States?
This was a great read, pacey, atmospheric, lots of twists and turns and even the hard to believe bits were made reasonably credible. Hard to put down - this was La's book club book for May.

The Year of the Locust
Kane is a CIA spy, trained in all kinds of sneakiness and weapons. He is sent to Afghanistan to extract an informer with vital information concerning a terrorist plot - a big one. But while his informant is brutally killed and his mission is compromised, he gets a glimpse of the chief terrorist - the man with the locust tattoo. This gives Kane a slight advantage and he goes in pursuit, but unfortunately he ends up on a time-travelling submarine, and subsequently has to fight space-dust zombies to save the whole of humanity. This also has a knock-on effect to his personal relationships.
I was hoping for great things after I am Pilgrim and it started off pretty well to be fair. Then we got to the zombies and the time-travel and I had to wonder if Mr Hayes had already written the accompanying screenplay. Great page-turner though.
