![]() | In Ascension | Leigh had a troubled childhood, growing up with her sister in Rotterdam, having to deal with an abusive father. But she gets into marine biology and, following an interesting but also mysterious trip to the mid-
Atlantic to investigate an anomalous deep trench, is recruited into a space program to help with engineering algae food for long space missions. She ends up crewing the mission and learns that new technology means humans can travel faster and further than ever before and they leave in search of what seems to be an alien message, right on the boundary of the solar system. But they never return - or do they? Leigh's sister takes up the story as she continues to search for the truth long after Leigh's mission should have returned.
