What!! It wasn’t real?? I had been googling it while reading and just seeing the same image of the same tunnel over and over. Plus maps with the routes …but yes, makes more sense if it’s a metaphor. Finished this book last night. Had no idea how horrific it was in the Southern states.

Excellent, really good chase story and great characters, with loads of good history too. Although apparently the railroad itself wasn't real. Must be a metaphor I suppose. And it is on the 2017 Booker shortlist.
